Ins and Outs - 3rd October

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Birthday

This time next week i shall be twenty one years of age, and not forgetting in Paris!
Despite the fact i'm super excited, i still have so much to do, sorting out maps, metro lines and packing - oh and making sure that the boy actually has a suitcase!

My lovely friends Sarah and Liz also took me to the theatre for my birthday surprise on Wednesday night to see Clybourne Park, which starred Martin Freeman (my all time geek crush), it was such a great play and a such an amazing present idea. And i'm off to spend a good four hours aimlessly wandering around Blue Water tomorrow in a bid to find a birthday present from the boy.

Stylist Magazine

I'm back! The Features Editor Alix asked if i (specifically) could come back in this week so i could help plan for the new year! I certainly feel very glad to be asked back, not only did i have a whirl - but what a compliment! I'll be in the office in Tuesday and Wednesday, compiling lists and planners of events, new releases of books, films, music and conversing with PRs to see what's happening. Basically i get to put my organisational skills in to overdrive, and give them a massive hand in future planning.

Being a Student

As my last year as a student, i fully intend to burn my NUS card to the ground. Heaven knows how i will cope without that added little luxury of 10% off in Topshop. If you have recently graduated or are not a student - i advise you to skip the following paragraph.

River Island and Toppers are hosting some fabulous Student Nights, with 20% off in-store, which is pretty useful if you have your eye on a great pair of winter boots or coat. I will definitely be stopping by the Oxford Street branches to have a nose! (a rummage).

Also, ASOS who left the student discount bandwagon last year and jumped back on. They are currently offering 20% off for the time being, yet they will still offer 10% off year round. Perfect with their Super Saver Delivery.

Winning Competition

My brother is so lucky, every competition going he seems to win, or just finding that odd ten pound note flying around on the pavement. Unfortunately, i can't say that family gene has ever passed over to me. But Saturday night i was casually reading my FB news feed, and i was delighted to see that i had won a fifty pounds voucher for Accessories Online!

I had been aware of this website for quite a long time, often having a good look at the Dogeared necklaces, toying on purchasing. I also became a fan of their FB page a while back, and incidentally i was picked at random in this prize draw!

I'm also delighted to see that they also stock Alex Monroe, so i definitely think one of his adorable necklaces will be on their way to me!

If you want to have a ganders, see here at Accessories Online and their FB page here.

The recent terror alert system is freaking me out ever so slightly, considering i am going to Paris. But as long as i wear my glasses and make copious notes whilst watching this week's Spooks, i hope everything goes smoothly.

So there's enough chatter, i have some posts in the pipeline about new purchases,
and here's the question of today, have you ever won anything exciting?
Do tell & any recommendations for Paris are much welcomed.

Hey kitty, kitty.

Monday, September 20, 2010

My boy's family are pretty crazy about ginger cats. Personally i'm not a cat person, but when i saw a photo of his new little kitten Wookie (we are self confessed Star Wars fans) my heart melted. I cannot wait to meet him properly, and will upload a photo as soon as i can. In mean the mean time, this following spread was taken from this week's Stylist magazine, where i interned recently. They say you should never work with animals or children, but a roomful of well-groomed felines, jaw-dropping expensive jewels complete with their own body guard it takes it to another level, no?

These are some of the fiercest felines in town.
You can view the spread here online at Stylist magazine, with its specially designed LFW issue, that houses some great interviews, espesh with Hannah Marshall and Erin O' Connor.

SHE GOT STYLE

Friday, March 19, 2010

i have some fabulous news, and i thought i would share!

Within my degree, i have many guest lectures that are a variety of well known publishers, editors and designers that come into give an insight to the publishing world. Recently, to my delight, the darling Lisa Smosarski, editor of STYLIST magazine came in to class and had a chat. Lisa revealed the secrets behind launching a new magazine in the market, a magazine that stands apart from your Grazia's and Look's; as well as a publishing a magazine that soley only receives revenue from advertising because it's given away for free? Did you know, that however successful STYLIST is, fashion house Chanel will never advertise within the magazine because it's given away free? To be that fabulous aye!

So after the lecture, i had a quick chat with Lisa, to which she presented moi with her business card.. so to which leads me to my good news...

i have a placement at STYLIST for a whole month in August!

seriously, i cannot word how excited i truly am! i cannot wait to get stuck in, with the added promise of writing content for the September and October issues. If you haven't heard of STYLIST magazine, where have you been hiding? well chances are probably not in the city! Stylist magazine is a free, women's fashion weekly, handed out in cities such as London, Manchester ect ect.

Stylist, amazingly entered the women's magazine market with a fresh take on fashion and style, with a mix of news, top picks and fashion spreads. The design and style of the magazine is effortlessly chic and stylish. Choosing beautiful yet striking cover images, whether that a Mulberry bag or Angelina Jolie, it was sure to pull a great interest of the women of London, instead of the usual paparazzi shot of any B-List celeb. The magazine also offers well written features, boasting news, travel, events, fashion, beauty, art, film, food with interesting interviews. Seriously, could it get any better, a free magazine offering women everything they want/need to know, perfect.

STYLIST!

Wednesday, October 7, 2009
I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of new magazine STYLIST, since my last blog post (see here) i havent really heard much about when it was being launched. However, yesterday as i was on my way from the Topshop Student event to see Inspector Calls at the Novello Theatre (pre-birthday event with a few friends) i was handed the first ever issue of Stylist. The magazine is a fresh take on a women's weekly, pushing the boundaries on publishing, Stylist is a free-sheet which means that it is a free magazine as it relies on soley on advertising to make profit. Which is absolutely amazzzing if your like me, who spends horrific amounts of buying Grazia and Look every week as well as all the fashion monthlies (£££!).

Stylist, amazingly enters the women's magazine market with a fresh take on fashion and style, with a mix of news, top picks and fashion spreads. The design and style of the magazine is effortlessly chic and stylish (true to the title, i must admit). Choosing a head shot of the ever gorgeous Angelina Jolie, was sure to pull a great interest of the women of London, instead of the usual paparazzi shot of any B-List celeb. (i am sick of seeing bloody Jennifer Anniston on every cover). The magazine also offers well written features, boasting news, travel, events, fashion, beauty, art, film, food with interesting interviews. Seriously, could it get any better, a free magazine offering women everything they want/need to know, perfect.

I will be sure to pick up Stylist every Wednesday, but unfortunately it is only being given out in big cities across the UK, but not to fear the magazine can be viewed online here.

Have a sneak peak at the first issue:
